Thermophilic Anaerobic Digestion: An Advancement towards Enhanced Biogas Production from Lignocellulosic Biomass

Thermophilic anaerobic digestion (TAD) technology has been adopted worldwide mainly due to it being a pathogen-free process in addition the enhanced biogas yield and short hydraulic retention time (HRT). Taking high metabolic rate of thermophilic microbial community with highly efficient enzymatic systems into consideration, thermophiles are widely explored as inocula for lignocellulosic biomass (LCB) degradation improved biomethane production. The advantages TAD over mesophilic (MAD), including kinetics, organic matter, economic environmental sustainability, make one best strategies be operated at moderately temperatures. This review sheds light on relevant role microorganisms matter factors affecting overall stability Further, discussion explains enhancing efficiency digestion.
